That said, I am unquestionably dismayed by the prospect of writing about London, a city that left my unsophisticated seventeen-year-old self utterly non-plussed and that I doubt would do much more for me today. Moreover, the thought of travel-writing disheartens me, because I know that the only travel in my forseeable future (as in, the remainder of 2010) is a two-week trip to Winnipeg.
I don't have writer's block, exactly. It's more like writer's antipathy.
When I was writing about Paris, I loved this blog. I looked forward to posting entries about my favourite places to shop and eat and see... Writing about Barcelona was more of a chore. The city itself is beautiful, and worthy of far more enthusiasm than I feel for it. Seattle is less the love my life than Paris, but it was equally easy to write about; I visit often and never tire of finding new things to experience while there.
But London... I have been putting London off for longer than I want to admit simply because I know I won't like writing about it. I will have to force myself to post, and if my blogging comes to that, then there isn't really much point in going on.
So I think there are some changes- probably big changes- in store for One Suitcase, Seven Shopping Bags. There are a few different directions I'm considering...
- I could devote the blog exclusively to Paris. It is my home-away-from-home and one of the great loves of my life... As those who know me are well aware, I am a devoted francophile and sometimes cannot stop myself from expounding upon the marvelous virtues of France.
- I could take the blog in a slightly more personal direction, combining my passion for travel and fashion in a more photo-focussed, less information-based way. After all, as much as I'd love to, I simply can't be travelling all the time. In the time between holidays, I would focus more on fashion. [I've been working on a fashion blog with my friend Rachel for a few months now and have allowed it to monopolise a lot of my time. For an idea of what my version of a fashion blog looks like, visit Coco and Vera.]
- I could take on a joint project with my photographer fiancé, Ian. I am envisioning a sort of travel photo blog... his images and my impressions. [To see more of his work, visit Ian Lloyd Photography.]
